After months of diligent preparation, nine students from forms 1 and 2 recently embarked on their journey to join the highly anticipated Battle of the Books finals. The students had previously joined the semi-finals, in which they successfully paved their way to the grand stage of the Battle of the Books finals. The journey had been arduous, but their hard-earned mastery of the printed page had brought them to victory. The team emerged as the Overall Champion after a fiercely contested competition.
These intelligent students had immersed themselves in a collection of 12 captivating stories, committing each riveting plot twist and enigmatic character to memory. They engaged in thrilling, cut-throat battles of wits against teams from other schools. The stakes were high, but our team’s unyielding determination had brought them to win the first runner-up of the semi-finals.
“My experience in the 2024 inter-school Battle Of The Books competition was very positive. We had a fun and welcoming experience. Compared to last year, we improved our performance in terms of memorizing the key details of our books. Our hard work has led us to win the Overall Champion. The battle wasn’t easy as there was one specific school that was very efficient and fast with the questions, but it wouldn’t be a competition without a challenge. The way we all worked together to discuss who read which book and who we wanted to answer the questions with improved our communication skills. Not only were we honing our reading skills, but our responsiveness skills were also greatly improved. “

“I had a great time in the Battle of the Books competition. One of the highlights of the competition was the opportunity to engage in a lively discussion with my teammates about the books that we have read. We had dedicated countless hours to reading the books. It was fascinating to hear different perspectives of the stories which has deepened my understanding of the books and author. While the competition was exciting, there were some challenges as well. For instance, I struggled to recall the details and the quotes of the books under pressure. However, these challenges pushed me to think quickly, improving my analytical skills. Participating in the Battle of the Books competition taught me the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation. Working closely with my teammates to prepare for the competition helped me appreciate the value of supporting each other. In conclusion, the Battle of the Books was a memorable experience that allowed me to grow as a reader and team player. My teacher, Ms. Fung’s support, guidance, and encouragement also played a significant role in my experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate and for my teachers’ support.”

“Going to the battle of the books was a very eye-opening experience. It was really the first time that I got to compete with other schools instead of competing in inter-school competitions. I would definitely recommend giving it a chance if you want to read books and have fun with it. Overall, it was a wonderful experience”
