S6 Interschool Oral Practice at St. Stephen’s College
Under the blue sunset of Stanley stands 9 individuals, all holding bright smiles and an air of
pride. Despite fears of inadequacy in preparation, the group had come out victorious.
On 28 October, a selected group of form 6 girls from our College were tasked to go up against
students from the prestigious St. Stephen's College in a face-to-face group interaction practice
and friendly debate. Many were scared, fearing their English level may not be able to stand up
against the near native English of the Stephenians. They were also less experienced in the
debate setting. The whole situation made them feel like a fish out of water. However, despite
such insecurities, the True Light girls still trained hard and pushed on.
After the warm-up group interaction practice, students from the two schools were all ready for
the friendly debate. “I hope our hard work will pay off!” During the match, the True Light Girls
fought fiercely against their opponents. They read their scripts with passion and rebutted with all
their might. In the end, an outcome that no one expected happened. True Light had won against
the famed St. Stephen.
Looking back at the photo, it showcases how despite all odds and obstacles, through pure might
and determination, the girls proudly standing underneath the sunset had come out victorious. It
was a lesson to everyone that day, that by working hard and not giving up, anything is possible,
even the most impossible ones.
